One of the most compelling features of JobTabs is its ability to allow you to be a more qualified candidate, while applying to a broader range of opportunities at the same time.  Without a tool like JobTabs, this would be an incredibly labor intensive proposition.  The organizational demands alone would be enough to drain you of any energy to stay motivated.  Fortunately, JobTabs does all of this behind the scenes allowing you to focus on selling yourself as each opportunity arises.

A key facet of our philosophy is being the ideal candidate.  While our experience may limit our ability to be the ideal candidate to some degree, we need to be as close as we can to being that candidate the employer is seeking if we want that job.  In order to fulfil the specifics of the job requisition, we will need the right resume.  The best starting point is the resume you already have.  You need to create a copy.  To do so,

Creating a clone of an existing resume

  1. Select the resume which best matches the skills being sought by the job opportunity.
  2. Click the Clone Resume button.

You're done.  JobTabs will produce an exact duplicate of the resume you have highlighted and place it as a child node below that resume.  JobTabs will also copy the description of the current resume and place it in the resume description of the new resume.  A copy of the title will also be inserted into the top of the description box.  Since you are creating a duplicate of a resume, the description will generally be a derivation of the original description and is simply included as a starting point for the new description.

It is a good idea to edit the title of the new copy and the description as well and then edit the new resume.  This will allow you to maintain your focus on the resume you are trying to create.

Be sure to clearly describe how this resume differs from the original in the resume description box.  In your quest for a new job the title alone should generally be enough for you to know whether or not a particular resume is a candidate for the job requisition.  What you will really want to know is how each resume is distinguished from the other resumes as it is that difference that will determine whether you will send that resume to the company or use it as a starting point to create an even better resume.

Creating the copy is only the beginning.  The real art begins here as you morph your credentials to the requirements being sought and the details you have gathered about the employer's environment.  Edit the resume by clicking the Edit Resume Edit the selected resume. icon on either the menu or toolbar.

The more you labor to qualify yourself, the less work you will have in the future to qualify yourself for another position.  The amount of work you put into qualifying yourself is no longer an expense, but becomes an investment that yields dividends for every resume thereafter.

Allow us to qualify our interest in "minimizing the work" required of you on the job search.  First and foremost, JobTabs is a tool designed for people who are willing to work for results.  The problem JobTabs mitigates is the prodigious amount of work you have to expend to get those results.  The job search by its very nature is a solitary endeavor and thus seemingly thankless at times.  Often, you work hard to get the resume honed and the cover letter perfected only to send it out and never hear anything from your prospect.  There is no reward for the work you expended.  If it happens enough, it can sap you of your vigor to the point that even beginning your search will become a battle in and of itself.  As such, it is easy to become unmotivated and distracted.  Even self described workaholics can easily become despondent and stagnant while seeking new opportunities.

We believe this low work-to-reward ratio is the root cause of this stagnation.  By allowing you to better qualify yourself for a broader range of opportunities with less effort JobTabs can tilt the work-to-reward ratio to a much more equitable balance.  You are much less likely to be adversely affected should your expectations not be met, because you expended much less effort to qualify yourself in the first place.  More importantly you are much more willing to apply to more opportunities, simply because it is easier to do so.

This is why we continue to emphasize "less work" that will be required of you as you search for a new job or contract on a day to day basis.  Additionally, we strive to remind you that your efforts are less of an expense and more of an investment every time you apply for a new job.  The more opportunities you apply to, the easier it will be to apply to future opportunities.
